Case Management Matters

Yesterday Mary Sue attended an AVL meeting to hear the National Commissioner’s response to Health and Safety issues identified by CANZ in a recent letter. Present at this meeting: Sarah Symonds, Rachel Leota and David Kettley. This meeting was about the issue the number of cases (prisoners) a CM is assigned. Workload was also discussed. During the discussion Corrections noted it was practical to look at a threshold number, although they wouldn’t agree to a specific number of cases per CM. This comment came from Rachel Leota, Deputy National Commissioner Corrections Services, who said it was reasonable to consider a threshold rather than a range for caseloads similar to Community Probation’s 25-35. This is the first time we have heard anything even remotely close to this and we are pleased it came from the Deputy National Commissioner. There was an indication Corrections would explore what a threshold would look like.
